THE BAT

Bats are a type of mammal. This means that they have fur hair and have living babies.There are seven types of bats in Ireland.Six of these bats belongs to the “vesper bat”group.These bats have very long ears.The long eared bat daubentons bats the natteres bat leisler’s bat whiskers bat and the pipistrelle-the most common bat found in Ireland.They make squeaky noises to communicate.The bat eats flying insects like moths dragon -flies and mayflies.Sometimes they eat  spiders and beetles.They sleep in the day hanging upside down in dark caves or in attics.They are also found in woodland areas especially near water where they will find plenty of  insects as food.

Both parents teach the young cub how to hunt and fight for themselves.The farmers hate them because they kill their hens and their eggs.Lots of foxes die each year because this thing called ”sport”.The fox is part of the dog family and is a carnivore.Even listed as a carnivore it eats bugs and fruit.

The  scientific name for the red deer is cervus elephas.A red deer are herbivores A male red  deer is called a buck .A female red deer is called a hind. A buck has two long  antlers . The red deer is the largest deer in Ireland .During the famine almost half  of the red deer died  in Ireland.A baby red deer is called a calf  .He will stay with his mother for five months and will leave his mother to try to become a grown buck.Red deer are the most protected deer In Ireland.

They eat chickens and their eggs,rabbits,young hares,brown rats,beetles,earthworms,eggs,mice,snails,birds,scraps from rubbish bins, even listed as a carnivore it will eat berries and fruit.

The Irish name for badger in Irish is Broc.
The male is called a boar, the female is called a sow, the baby is called a cub.

The black rat is  omnivorous which means t they eat food of  both animal and vegetable.
They are not really  fussy about what food they eat and in a fact will eat anything.
The dump should be moved but the question is ”where do you move it to” as any place that is suggested everybody says ”NO”.
It is really a problem.
