Golden Eagle (Aquila Chrysaetos)

It is being re-introduced in Donegal. Wandering birds have been observed in upland areas.

It is Ireland’s second largest bird.

It eats grouse,crows,gulls as well as mammals rabbits young foxes will also eat carrion.

It is twice the size of a Common Buzzard.

Adult birds generally appear a uniform dark brown.

when seen at a distance in flight.

When seen in close range, the massive size immediately apparent,as is the golden coloured head.

You can see it in Glenveagh National Park in County Donegal.
