Hurling

The playing field used for hurling is approximately 150 yards by 90 yards. Hurling is the fastest game on grass. The hurley is shaped like a hockey stick. The sliotar is 3 inches in diamter and is made of cork bound firmly with woolen thread and then covered with leather. The rims, where the leather is joined, stand out from the surface. The players may strike the ball with either side of the bas. Good players can drive the ball at speeds of up to 90 miles per hour. The ball may cover a distance of more than 95 yards. A game is 70 minutes, and play is continuous. Hurling in irish is iomáint. You can pick up the ball with a roll lift or the gab lift. And you can catch the ball.

Our class will take part in hurling coaching sessions every second friday this year. Thanks to all the coaches involved and to Tuam Hurling Club for their continuing hard work with  the boys.
